Silica brick mainly by tridymite, cristobalite and quartz and a small amount of residual glass phase consisting of acidic refractories.
It belongs to acidic refractory,which has strong resistance to acid slag erosion，load softening temperature up to 1640 ~ 1670 ℃, long-term use at high volume relatively stable。However, it is strongly eroded by alkaline slag. It is easily destroyed by oxides containing Al2O3, K2O and Na2O,but it has good resistance to oxides such as CaO, FeO and Fe2O3.
Silica Brick has various features of excellent high-temperature strength, strong acid slag erosion resistance.
It is mainly used for coke ovens and combustion chamber walls, open hearth steelmaking regenerator and sediment room, soaking furnace, glass furnace, refractory materials and ceramic silica brick kiln firing kiln vault and other load-bearing parts. Also used in high-temperature load-bearing parts of the stove and acid open-hearth furnace top.
Silica bricks for coke are mainly composed of tridymite, which are mainly used to construct regenerator walls, chutes, combustion chambers, carbonization chambers and coke oven roofs. Modern coke ovens are large-scale thermal equipment built with tens of thousands of tons and nearly a thousand types of brick-type refractories, of which silica bricks account for 60% to 70%. Silica bricks for coke ovens mainly have the characteristics of high load softening temperature, high thermal conductivity, good thermal shock resistance, and good volume stability at high temperatures.

High thermal conductivity: Coke is made by coking coal in the coking chamber through the wall of the combustion chamber. Therefore, the silica refractory bricks used to form the wall of the combustion chamber should have high thermal conductivity. . Due to the regular coking and coke discharge of the coke oven, the temperature of the refractory silica bricks on both sides of the heating wall changes rapidly. The normal working temperature change will not cause serious cracking and peeling of the silicon brick. When the temperature exceeds 600°C, coke oven bricks have good thermal conductivity. Since the coke is heated by the conduction between the burner wall and the coking coal in the coking chamber, the coke oven bricks should have a higher thermal conductivity. In the temperature range of the combustion chamber of the coke oven, the thermal conductivity of refractory silica bricks is higher than that of fire clay bricks and high alumina bricks.

The residual quartz content in silicon bricks with good crystal type conversion is 1% lower. During normal operation of the coke oven, coke oven bricks can maintain overall stability and airtightness.
5. True density 2.33g/cm³
6. High fire resistance under load: coke oven bricks must bear the dynamic load of the top coal wagon at high temperatures and need to be used for a long time without deformation. Requires higher softening temperature of coke oven bricks. The coke oven bricks can withstand the live load of the charging truck on the roof of the furnace and maintain its shape without changing the high temperature.
Because silica brick has the characteristics of chemical resistance, low bulk density, no pollution to glass, stable volume at high temperature, and prevents the furnace body from changing due to temperature fluctuations, it has become an important high-temperature component for the construction of glass tank kilns.
